다른 사람과의 대화는 다른 우주에서 이루어진다. 모두가 공유하리라 여겨지는 관점은 상대방에게 당연하지 않고, 상식도 그에게는 낯선 영역일 수 있다. 이런 불일치는 다른 언어와 대조하면 더욱 선명해진다. 언어를 익히면서 세상에 대한 인지를 누적해나가는 인간은 단어의 유무나 그의 성격에 따라 어떠한 존재가 그의 삶에 아예 존재하지 않거나 감각과 감정까지 좌우하기도 한다.

언어가 실재세계를 그대로 담을 수는 없지만 그의 작용은 없다고 할 수 없다. <프린키피아(Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica)>에서 뉴턴은 ‘시간과 공간과 위치와 운동을 정의하지 않겠다’라고 명시하며 다른 개념을 빌리지 않은 채 감각적 대상과의 관계로 뉴턴역학의 주춧돌을 쌓는다. 관계로 인하여 존재가 발하며, 실체는 유령인 채로 작용은 피어난다.

실체가 없다고 말할 수도, 항상하다고 말할 수도 없는 지점에서 작가는 실체를 버리고 작용을 좇아가보기로 한다. 작용은 감각 혹은 관계에 의해 정립되기에 주관적이며, 때문에 관객이 익숙한 이름을 마주한다 하더라도 본래 떠오르던 형상이 아닐 수 있다.

<고정의 유동>에서 작가는 고정된 실체와 유동하는 작용 관계에서 엇갈린 틈을 찾아내고 이를 주관적으로 풀어낸다. 그렇기에 모든 작품은 어딘가 어긋나있고, 어딘가 현실이 아닌 것 같다. 꿈속과 같이 감각은 낯설고 본래 알던 개념과 다르다. 5개의 작품 중 ‘다른 사람의 다리를 끄는 것은 힘들다’에서 작가는 다리를 압박해 감각을 차단하며 본인 다리를 다른 사람의 다리라고 칭한다. ‘나’라는 것이 있다는 가정을 고정시키면 감각의 오류와 같은 틈과 마주하기에 감각에서 시작하여 역순으로 실체를 쌓는다. 이와 같이 작가는 머릿속에서 개념을 구분 지어 놓았던 기준을 해체하고 작용을 재조립해 주관적이고 새로운 실체를 만들고자 한다.

Conversations with others take place in different universes. Perspectives assumed to be universally shared might not be obvious to the other person, and common sense may also be an unfamiliar territory to them. Such discrepancies become even clearer when contrasted with different languages. As humans learn language, they accumulates their understanding of the world. Depending on the presence or absence of words and their nature, certain entities may entirely exist or control sensations and emotions in one's life.

Language cannot perfectly encapsulate the real world, but its influence cannot be denied. In 'Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica,' Newton stated, 'I will not define time, space, position, and motion,' establishing Newtonian mechanics through relationships with sensible objects, without borrowing different notions. Existence arises from relationships, and action blooms while the substance remains a ghost.

At a point where one cannot claim non-existence or perpetual existence, the artist chooses to abandon substance and follow actions. Actions are subjective, established by senses or relationships, so even when an audience encounters familiar names, the original imagery might differ.

In <A Flux of Fixity>, the author identifies the divergent gap between fixed entities and fluid actions, subjectively deciphering it. Hence, all works seem somehow out of sync and surreal. Sensations, akin to a dream, feel unfamiliar, differing from conventional notions. In the work 'It Is Hard to Drag Someone Else's Leg,' the artist compresses a leg to block sensation, referring her own leg as someone else's. By anchoring the assumption of 'self,' we confront gaps like sensory errors, so she starts with the senses and builds up the substance in reverse order. Cho Yeji seeks to create a new, subjective entity by dismantling the standards once segregated in our mind and reassembles actions.
